little kids are dumb

one year, when i was about 4 or 5, i was starting to doubt the existence of santa claus so my parents went all out to convince me that he was real. one morning in mid-december or so i woke up to find a little bag with these tiny elf tools in our tv room. they were amazing. then on another night, as we were watching tv, my older brother snuck around to the back of the house and flashed a camera in the window. my parents explained that it was one of santa's elves taking pictures to show santa who was being naughty/nice, etc. needless to say, i was fascinated and very dumb. i believed. then, of course, next year some dipshit at school told me there was no santa and that i was retarded for still believing in him.

One particularly awful christmas my family was here (which was why it was awful).

My cousins woke me up and 7 and we were running around the house like little retards. They knocked down my christmas tree and I ended up screaming, waking everyone up.

It wasn't too funny when it happened, but remembering it now makes me giggle like an idiot. Especially to think of my second eldest cousin ready to beat the crap out of the little punks responsible.

Plus its also one of the only christmas memories I have that I can laugh about.

I dunno if this is my favorite, but I like it:I think it was my first christmas in Kent, and I spent all night on the couch with some coffee and a book, reading and watching the tree. There was a thick new snowfall out, which made the night really bright. It was just very contemplative and peaceful, and I wished, when I finally fell asleep that I could have stayed awake just afew more hours.

when i was 4 years old i had chicken pox right at christmas time. most of our then-living relatives used to convene at our house for the holiday and i remember my parents dressing me up in a red velvet thing that made the chicken pox stand out even more. and then i went around coughing and looking pitiful in front of large groups of sympathetic and probably-cheek-pinching relatives.

ok perhaps its not my favorite memory but its probably my only distinct christmas memory. and also the only story even somewhat worth sharing.

when i was seven years old, my brother and i were playing hide and seek. i decided to hide in my parents shower, which at the time was not in use, because it didn't work.

inside i found an easel, with this message written on it: "dear sarah, the elves couldn't make any rollerskates this year, but i got you this easel instead! merry christmas! -santa"

or something like that.

it was in my dad's handwriting, of course.

(oh hey. by the way. i'm sarah! nice to meet you.)

When I was 9 years old, I was too excited to sleep on Christmas eve, and ended up getting so restless that I decided to go and open my presents at around 2am, far before anyone else was away. My mom walked in on my playing my new mini pinball machine, and needless to say, she wasn't very pleased at all....teehee.
