aquatic, the life

"tritely put, an era has ended..."

when i got home from working my terrible 9-5 job, an overwhelming sense of sadness swept over me. there was not one single explanation for this feeling, but many. i had found out yesterday i found out that now! music and fashion, the record store that i worked at and loved quite dearly, is closing up shop. alison yersopretty told me that honolulu restaurant is closing on the 9th or 10th of april. i guess it just feels like huge parts of me are dying. i took anyone who ever meant anything to be to honolulu. i bought dan immediatetongue his first alcoholic drink at honolulu. i've had more birthday celebrations there than i can remember. and now!, oh now!, you helped me befriend some of my favorite people in the universe. i hosted 3 of my make-out parties [see website] there. i got more records there than i could ever name. i made a short documentary about the store for a film class juxtaposing footage of tim talking positively about the future of now! while jerry talked negatively the future of his store, orpheus. ian s. told me what i still consider the dirtiest joke i know there. ian m. was just always the nicest ever when he came in. seeing the lucksmiths there twice. the day tim asked me when i was going to start working there and i answered "right now?" and he started training me that day. god, seriously, some of my favorite memories are associated with now! knowing that it won't exist anymore just really breaks my heart.

not getting calls or contact back from people you would like to hear from is also heart-breaking. oh well, there's nothing else i can do about that, is there? crush boys and record stores and old friends need to learn how to pick up the phone and punch in numbers to reach me.

after thinking about all of this and just really missing dc in general heaps and heaps tonight, i ate a bowl of thin mint ice cream and i took a lil' nap to 'new england' by jason anderson and woke up at 8:30 to eat a veggie bbq chicken sandwich and watch the new show with jason schwartzmann/molly shannon in it. it was tres mediocre, but i have a feeling i'm going to watch it anyhow. the o.c. is a re-run tomorrow

in between mail order, getting a package of music to review for, trading cds in and then working two days at one of my fave record stores, i managed to acquire a total of 32 cds in one week's time. yes, i am sick. oh, i am also bruised. last night the drummer from japanther jumped into the audience and came barreling at me and i fell into the concrete steps at the empty bottle. i have two very large bruises on my bum as a result. nice!

earlier today, i was fairly certain there was no way i was going to get to see jason anderson in dekalb on saturday, but quite randomly, in mid-aim-conversation with a boy who is a part of the book club i am putting together, i asked what he was doing on saturday. SO, it turns out he's going to drive us to dekalb in my car, which is perfectly legal since he HAS his driver's license. i'm super excited for it! it's been awhile since i've done any sort of road trip with another person.

and jason said...
jason (12:26:08 AM): neat
jason (12:26:12 AM): i'll make it worth yer while
jason (12:26:14 AM): BEST SHOW EVER

i have a feeling that these next few days are going to be non-stop.

"you only see the things you convinced yourself you saw"

liz girlvii asked me if there was anything i wanted while she was in the uk and because i was thinking about things i was still avidly searching for, i found out that city slang is putting out a new sophia album. WTF!? i've tried to find the other sophia albums for YEARS and then poof, here's a new one that i MIGHT be able to get my hands on. anyways, here's a song off of it: sophia - oh my love. seriously, it's pretty and i'd say they're for fans of american analog set/hood-like stuff. PLUS, they are touring. too bad i don't live in EUROPE!

coughcough, bene:
16.03.04 Bergen »Garage« / N
18.03.04 Oslo »John Dee« / N

i just emailed their booking agent actually to see if they are planning a us tour. no need to tell me i'm a nerd.
