books about music

this is all chop chopped from a post i sent to the dc indiepop list, but i want to make sure i get at least a few suggestions...

again proving my dorkdom, i am looking for a very specific thing right now. i am searching for more novels that contain lots of music references. the most perfect example of the kind of thing i am looking for is *the perks of being a wallflower* by stephen chbosky. others are [dur] *high fidelity* by nick hornby, *bridges with spirit* by adam voith, and *thirtynothing* by lisa jewell. if a character goes record shopping, makes mixtapes, attends concerts, goes to dance nights...then i will probably read that book. please post any suggestions you might have!

i was totally going to say that one.. so good.

jeff gomez: "our noise." (which is slightly annoying, though.)
jim munroe: "flyboy action figure comes with gasmask." (sort of)

s. chbosky

Steven Chbosky went to my high school. Mr Brosnahan (mentioned in the book) was my english teacher.

His sister wrote "Who owns the Sun" some years back, and it was a much bigger deal than him getting published. That's likely because:
1. She was still in school, and
2. Her book wasn't about a messed-up kid. Messed up kids tend to be ignored where I come from.

I know this comment is late. The livejournal came up in a google search.
