world child vs. war child

i don't know if anyone's noticed, but i've completely avoided the subject of war in my journal thus far. yesterday on the way to school i was slowing down for a stoplight and i noticed a dead opossum on the side of the road. he was lying on his back and one arm was crossed over his chest and his tongue looked as though it was falling out of his mouth. at that moment, i got very sad. i thought about all the deaths this war will cause. i don't think war is the only answer, though desperate times do call for desperate measures. think about the freedoms that you enjoy in this country. our country fought to get these freedoms throughout all the ages. i don't believe in senseless bloodshed, but the entire world doesn't see things through my eyes. with war on everyone's mind, i think that people are forgetting all the beautiful things and the freedoms that we are able to enjoy.

last night i saw sigur ros @ the 9:30 club. sometimes i really do think that music is the key to world peace. maybe they should try playing ( ) and see what happens.

music as the key to world peace

it's so funny you say that -- i really do think that music is the key to world peace. -- I've been thinking a lot about what my Friday question should be for the PF mailbag, and it was going to be something along those lines (maybe something like, "if you believe that music has the power to communicate, what song would you play to GWB right now" or something lame like that), but I think yours is much better. what is the most peaceful music you can think of?

Would you mind if I quoted your last paragraph in my column tomorrow?

yeah, think of all the freedoms our country has fought for that the bush administration has successfully taken away in a short 2 years. think of all the people who will die for the bush administrations personal financial gain. this is not a war for freedom, or anything else. bush is just a greedy fucking evil man... no wait, he is a terrorist! more people will die because of this man, than any of the terrorist victims of the last 10 years. it is truly horrifying.

i decided, i no longer want to be american. fuck this country, it is out of hand. if i can get out of my job soon, i'm spending the next year or two traveling around europe looking for somewhere better (don't believe me? just watch).

ugh, i feel sick.

the iraqi people aren't looking to be "saved" by the usa. they want us to get the fuck out of the middle east and leave them alone. even if they wanted freedom, it's not our place in the world to be mr. good guy, when we have our own problems at home that are neglected. i'm tired of everyone thinking the usa should be the problem solver of the world, when we have people in our own country dying from lack of food, shelter, or medical care. fuck the world, lets take care of ourselves first.

ps,. where and how do you draw the line between "stopping a dictator/genocide/oppression/etc." and allowing for other people to have self-determination and nation's to have some sort of sovereignty?
