I've only known a few people who are adopted. Although, my cousins have cousins (a brother and sister) on the other side of their family who were adopted from Russia when they were toddlers.

Have you ever met your birth parents?

No, but within the last couple of years I started searching.

I listed my info with an adoption registry.

Oh god, now the DuckTales theme is in my head. DuckTales! Woo-oo!

I don't know anyone my age-ish (other than you!) who is adopted. But Matt's aunt is, and Matt's friend adopted a child from Korea.

My stepmother's father was adopted, and my great-Aunt (who is still alive) was reunited about ten years ago with the son she had put up for adoption when she was younger.

I have a really good friend who was, along with her twin sister, adopted. And my best friend growing up had an older brother who was adopted. And my sister-in-law's sister has an adopted daughter. I didn't actually realize until now how many people I know who've been involved in adoption, and there might be more!

my best friend is also adopted! in college, he went through a brief stage of wanting to find out who his real parents were, but then he decided not to pursue it after all.

and an old friend of mine from washington dc is adopted, too, and he did look for his birth parents, and found he had a brother! so he had a very happy ending, and he was pretty old when he started his search. :)

good luck, hon!

My mother's mother was adopted.

I'm interesting in adopting one day rather than giving birth, though I haven't looked into the logistics yet. That part of my life is a long way away.

My ex was adopted. My friend Chris was too. My cousin has adopted a baby girl and my ex-boyfriend's parents adopted two girls from China. There are a lot of couples in WA adopting...

I think it's pretty awesome. I might adopt someday.

my half brother is adopted. he is my half brother by birth; my mom gave him up when she was 21 and it was a deep dark secret. he's ten years older than me. when i was about 20 she suddenly came out to the world with her secret, got all involved in adoption stuff (the rights of people, helping people find each other), and found him. it was a really great happy ending, though a little strange for me at the time.

One of my friends from college is adopted, and her brother is adopted as well.
A girl I worked with is adopted.
My friend's sister is currently adopting a child.
Also, if I decide I want kids, I think I would rather adopt than have one myself.

Oh, and also I just realized I have another friend who is adopted, but her circumstances are a bit stranger... she knows her birth mom, and visits her and whatnot, and she was adopted by her aunt and uncle because her birth mom has mental health problems.

that is really, really cool! you're the first friend to comment that you are, so you may be the one person i know (through the internetz) that IS adopted.

i started a thread on yelp about this topic and got a flurry of response and i'm going to meet up with one girl to talk about her search.

have you ever tried searching for your birthparents, or no?

ahhh! i meant to reply to this sooner

i haven't tried, no. i guess i'm waiting to get settled in my life a bit more before i open that door, but i'm not sure if that's a cop out excuse, cause i can't seem to dig down deep enough to figure out how i really feel about the whole thing. does that make sense? do you feel that way at all? i guess i'm just happy the way everything has gone so far and am really afraid of messing up the balance, but i am also afraid of waiting until it is too late. i might be overthinking it though, but maybe not, it's kind of a big deal and affects a lot of people in my life.

wow, this is the most i've thought about it in awhile!

feel free to email me if you want to talk about it more: jenferreira at gmail dot com :)
