carol linked this in her journal and i think every girl and guy should watch it:

holy gosh, tomorrow is the first day of december and this is the first year i've done my shopping early. 18 gifts purchased and 7 left to buy: 1) my boss 2) k, a co-worker 3) my brother 4) Mollie, my cousin 5) Leslie Boehms 6) Zachary's dad 7) Zachary - thanks to a tip from diana for the co-worker, i now have ideas for everyone except for z's dad.

i finally looked at a picture of nicole kidman as mrs. coulter in his dark materials: the golden compass and man, they did a good job casting her. i'm on book three now. it's engrossing and great and i think anyone who really enjoys well-written book series (not necessarily even for young adults) should read it. do it!

this weekend i craft like there is no tomorrow since the first day of the renegade craft fair is a week and 2 days from tomorrow.

Current Location: work
Current Mood: bouncy
Current Music: directions!

something that i think is an important thing to know is that the company that sells you dove products also sells axe deodorant, whose commercials you might remember with the woman who would suddenly become sexually attracted to mannequins whenever they were sprayed with the deodorant (i.e., women need nothing more than a good-smelling man and they're ready to go). i can admit that i thought those commercials were funny sometimes, but i also think the dove campaign is massively hypocritical. it's nice that they made that video of the billboard and everything, but i feel like they only "care" about women so much so they can use that as their gimmick to make even more money.

wow, thanks kayte. it grosses me out to discover that news, but i guess i still approve of their actions since every step getting the general public to understand that not all women are size 0 and that women who are a size 16 or 18 or 20 etc are still beautiful is a good step. i'm sure they use animal products in their products and probably still test on animals and i don't use their products, but i do believe this campaign has had a positive effect on some people, so it's not all bad.

oh yeah, the therapists at my work actually use dove's campaign to introduce girls to the idea of body-acceptance now... i think it's a good step, at least, but i can't help but feel affected by the politics of it at the same time. and hell, anytime we can get a little body variety on television without resorting to having the larger (average in american statistics) woman playing some version of the 'sassy best friend' character...
