blood rayne

the best worst movie ever. blood rayne is bound to go down in history as one of the worst movies ever. james guessed that maybe it cost $8 to make. i'm thinking more like $10,000 but not much over that. i shudder to think how much the actual budget was since i cannot believe how absolutely pathetic it was. honestly, at this point in my life i am digging seeing TERRIBLE $5 movies FAR more than quality $9.50 movies because my friends are FREAKING AMAZING. ginny and i were cracking up at all the gaping plotholes, terrible acting, bad costume design, the enunciation/accents of characters, the meatloaf orgy scene, ben kingsley (what are you doing in this movie?), and the sex against the metal door. michael madsen's overdubs were most likely recorded in a bathroom or while he watching tv on mute. josh is laughing at how loud we are laughing. i glance over past josh and james is holding his hands up towards the gods asking, "W THE F!?" again i say, best worst movie ever.

re: rayne's 2nd costume in the film: "we had our seamstress whip something up for you" and it was the SAME OUTFIT but in leather, like a pair of chaps with red panties built into the design. erk? visually, it is what the video game character's outfit looked like but it fits wonkily and i have no idea why they kept showing butt shots since it's just saggy. see it yourself along with michael madsen's mullet here.

just for the record, the video game was terrible too. gaping plot holes and terrible story, bad controlls, etc.

HAHAHA...yeah, that's totally the experience some friends and I had when we all went to see Van Helsing a few years ago. We laughed for virtually the entire time (perhaps much to the dismay of the other theatre-goers who gave the impression of taking the flick much to seriously), especially the end when Kate bounces off a couple of rocks during their seige of Dracula's castle...I still get a chuckle out of that.

And I'm going to see Underworld 2 next weekend!!! :)

Anyway, maybe Kingsley was searching for his Gandalf (I almost typed "Chasing Gandalf" lol.) I read an interview with Sean Connery wherein he expressed his regret over turning down the Gandal role in LOTR (cuz he'd NEVER READ THE BOOKS!!! Can you believe it??) He then went on to accept the role of Alan Quartermain in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen because "I didn't want to pass up the same opportunity twice." HA. Poor guy. Gandalf's are few and far between...

My guess is that the reason Kingsley got roped into something as DOA as Bloodrayne was because the producers (or whoever) assured Kingsley that it was a solid property with scores of fans and that the production team were all fans and would do the material justice and it would be sleeper hit, blah blah blah (we'll have to wait for the DVD making-of special to be sure.) OR, Kingsley just needed the money. In either case, I'm sure he's regretting what seems (based on the LJ reviews...I haven't seen it myself) to have been the ultimate whoring of his talents.

Her costumes looked like they were designed for someone else. The fit was awful. Maybe she was a last-minute recast? Also, the flowy purple shirt Michelle Rodriguez was wearing during that scene on the shore looked like it came off the rack at the Gap.

Did they ever give us an indication of when the movie was set, other than in Europe, pre-gunpowder? Mom was speaking French in the flashback, but she was the only one. Is asking these questions a fruitful exercise?
