sickly leigh

seriously, dudes, i am huffing chicken noodle soup and green tea. i took a sudafed cold & sinus so i'm feeling all hyper but not heaps better. honestly, the only reason i came in today is because there is a filing and it seems like it's a pain in the ass for everyday when i am not here on a filing day. we have to send the mail guy in instead.

what are your tried and true cold remedies?

ps. my solace = going to see the midnight showing on thursday night of THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE.

Current Mood: sick
Current Music: royksopp is in my head

limelady would give me emergen-C packets in orange juice when we were in college & sick all the time. i keep a stash of them for whenever i'm feeling run down. i like to make the raspberry in hot water like a fruity tea.

My cold remedy = only eat or drink hot things and sleep a lot. Whine to everyone around you, because attention feels good.

i gorge myself on vitamin c and echinacea (generally in the form of a jamba juice with "immunity boost") to try and get rid of it more quickly, and for a sore throat, i try to drink something citrusy because the irritation actually helps get it numb and then stops bothering me so much. that's the worst part of colds for me--the sore throat part at the very beginning. i also get the orange (colored, not flavored) sudafed too, which seems to work best for me in those situations.

I drink cartons of OJ and lots of Theraflu.
As of this morning I think I'm finally 100% over the death-flu of last week, as the last remaining traces of icky phlegm that'd been stuck in my upper respiratory tract has made its way on out of my body.

Hope you feel better soon! Rest whenever possible!

emergen-C packets (i like them with cold water), hot soup with tons of spiciness, garlic, etc added in. ginger tea (made from fresh ginger root). eucalytus oil for congestion... works wonders!

i had a cold a few weeks back and was having trouble breathing at night. i got one of thise plug in vapor things (sort of like a plug in air freshener, but it's all minty). it TOTALLY helped me while i was sleeping. i highly recommend.

i try to stay away from medications as much as possible. i do like to fill up with zinc and echinacea during the first few days.. really helps.

feel better soon!

things i've learned working for doctors:

- lots and lots of hot, clear fluids (lemon tea with honey since it's antibacterial, hot chicken soup with some extra fresh garlic added)

- drinking water, sprite, gatorade, ginger ale, juice as much as you can to stay hydrated (i'll also occasionally have one ice cold coke during the day because it feels good, but more than that can make you feel sicker from caffeine)

- try not to starve yourself. if you're nauseous, the BRAT diet works well (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) eating small amounts frequently helps your body fight the germies

- theraflu is probably the best OTC medication ever. it's hot, which helps clear your sinuses and soothe your throat, plus has the best mode of medication delivery

- SLEEP. you need rest.

<3 hope you get to feeling better.

Do you take daily vitamins? That might be a good preventative for future sickness. And wash your hands with soap and hot water all the time.

The stuff I used last year that my nutritionist recommended was Zicam, which you squirt up your nose. And one of my co-workers swears by something you get at Whole Foods called netty bo? something like that? She swears by it, at any rate.

Feel better!

i do take my daily vitamins: folic acid, calcium citrate, women's multi, vitamin e, b6 (i think?), b12. i think that i take a total of 6 pills daily. i have vitamin c pills too. should i be taking those daily too?

heart,
leigh

i am one of those stubborn people who REFUSES to squirt stuff up my nose. seriously, even if it relieved all my symptoms immediately it would not balance out how terrible the act makes me feel. ew.

they make zicam in a mouth spray also. it makes your mouth feel kind of chalky for a few minutes but it goes away. i sear by this stuff at the beginning of any cold. it's stopped me from getting sick many times. glad you're feeling better now though. :)

I usually just consume buckets of chicken noodle soup (I hate canned, so I usually order it from a restaurant, which is as close to homemade as I can get nowadays...cuz I'm lazy. Anyway, Leona's, believe it or not, has OMG DELICIOUS chicken soup!), tons of chewable vitamin c at 500mg/pill and nyquil capsules (I take two and a half capsules a shot) and lots of bottled water (no to get too goofy about it, but I think Aquafina and Dasani, like tap water, feel totally...harsh...on a sore throat. Room-temp Evian slides down quite nicely...)

Feel better, Leigh... :(
